Videomania: Comedian Dana Carvey along with members of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and En Vogue announced the nominees for the very hip 1992 MTV Video Music Awards on Tuesday at La Boheme restaurant in West Hollywood. The Red Hot Chili Peppers were nominated in eight categories, including best group. U2 was nominated for three awards, including best group, best editing and best special effects for the song “Even Better Than the Real Thing.” Michael Jackson was nominated for best cinematography for his video “In the Closet” and best special effects for “Black or White.” The nominees for best video of the year: Def Leppard’s “Let’s Get Rocked,” Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Under the Bridge,” and Van Halen’s “Right Now.” Winners will be announced Sept. 9 at the telecast of the ninth annual awards to be broadcast live from UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion. U2, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, En Vogue and Nirvana will be among the performers on the show to be hosted by Carvey.
