La Canada Flintridge : Money for Storm Drains

Share

Repairs and improvements to storm drains that took a beating during recent heavy rains are the biggest new expense in the city’s $4.7-million budget for 1992-93.

The City Council approved the budget, up 1% from last year, on Monday. It allocates $170,000 for improving the drainage system and seeks a $60,000 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. A slope on Flintridge Avenue west of Hampstead Road that eroded during the February rains has been declared a disaster area by the agency, said City Manager Gabrielle Pryor.

The biggest cut from last year’s budget of $4.65 million was $151,850 from the amount the city pays the Sheriff’s Department for law enforcement. That will cut one patrol car from La Canada Flintridge for one shift each week.

The numbers may change depending on how the final state budget affects the city’s general fund.
