Two San Clemente men were arrested Wednesday in connection with the fatal shooting of a transient in an alley over the weekend, police said.

Todd Eugene Snow, 28, and Matthew Allen Dobbs, 33, were booked on suspicion of murder in the death of Steven Lewis Coyne.

Both suspects, who were arrested without incident about 2:30 p.m., are accused of shooting Coyne. But in a brief announcement of the arrests, police did not comment on a possible motive.

Coyne, 29, was fatally wounded Sunday in an alley in the 2000 block of South El Camino Real, police had earlier reported.

Residents called police when they heard the shots fired about 7:30 p.m. Officers found Coyne lying in the alley with two gunshot wounds to his left shoulder.

Coyne was taken to Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo, where he died about 9:30 p.m. Sunday, police said.

Coyne lived in San Clemente before moving to Corona in 1990, police said. He then moved back to San Clemente, moving from motel to motel, police said.
