LOS ANGELES : Tagger Chaka Gets 1 Year for Probation Violation

Convicted graffiti vandal Daniel Ramos--who “tagged” thousands of buildings, walls, buses and trains all over the area with the name Chaka--was sentenced Wednesday to a year in jail for violating probation.

Los Angeles Municipal Court Commissioner Robert Sandoval ordered Ramos, 19, of Boyle Heights, to begin serving his jail time immediately. The sentence stems from Ramos’ June 1 arrest for possession of marijuana for sale, which violated the probation he was on for a vandalism conviction, City Atty. Jim Hahn said.

Ramos, who is believed to have spray-painted his nickname thousands of times, was arrested near his home in Aliso Village after police found three baggies containing about 5.5 grams of marijuana in his pocket. Ramos has been in custody since June 4 after failing to make $20,000 bail.
