Doctors reported encouraging results from tests on a 35-year-old man who received a baboon’s liver in a history-making transplant, but they said they remain cautious about hopes for a full recovery. The doctors completed a liver biopsy, extracting a small piece of the patient’s new liver and examining it under a microscope. “This process found no signs of rejection. It also showed that the liver has grown 50% larger than before it was transplanted,” said a spokeswoman for the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center’s Presbyterian Hospital.
