U.S. Auto Makers Form Safety Consortium: General Motors, Ford and Chrysler said they have formed a partnership to develop a new generation of crash-test dummies to use in evaluating vehicle safety. The partnership will also develop crash-test dummies for side-impact evaluation and new tests to determine injury to various parts of the body. The safety research group is the ninth joint research effort between Detroit’s Big Three auto makers.
