Delta Meets the Press: Former “Designing Women” star Delta Burke on Tuesday credited a barrage of bad publicity with helping her get her own show on ABC this fall. “Bad press put me where I am,” she told a gathering of television critics and columnists at the Century Plaza. Burke, who is starring in and co-executive producer for the new series, titled “Delta,” went on to say: “If they didn’t write about me, I wouldn’t be famous and I wouldn’t be here.” Burke maintained that most of the stories written about her, her weight and troubles on her set are nonsense. “The lies hurt,” she admitted. “It’s hard, and I have to work constantly to rise above it.”
