Sierra Madre : $200 Maximum Parking Fee

Share

The City Council on Tuesday set a maximum levy of $200 on businesses in the newly established Central Business District Parking District.

Under the assessment formula initially adopted by the council, some businesses would have had to pay double or even triple that amount. Fees, based on square-footage of a business, were set in four categories according to the parking requirements for different types of businesses and proximity to the parking lot.

The assessment district was created to compensate the city for the $10,000 annual cost of maintaining the new parking lot behind businesses on Sierra Madre Boulevard.

Businesses soon will receive notification from the city of the amounts they are to be assessed. Charts listing the amounts are available at City Hall and the Sierra Madre Public Library.

The county tax collector will collect the new assessments next year along with property tax bills.
