The founder of the Irvine-based Mozart Camerata chamber orchestra and the woman who had charged him with physical assault settled out of court Thursday.

Ami Porat and his ex-fiancee, Karen Shenker, filed a request for dismissal of the assault and battery suit Shenker had filed against Porat in Orange County Superior Court, according to Shenker’s attorney, F. Thomas Eck IV of Irvine.

Terms of the settlement were not made public.

The case was to have gone to trial last month after Porat rejected a non-binding judgment issued in February by Orange County Superior Court arbitrator Peter V. Nix. Nix had recommended that Porat pay Shenker $120,000 for “injuries both physical and emotional” stemming from an alleged incident on Dec. 21, 1988, when, Shenker said, Porat struck her in the parking lot of her apartment complex.

Nix had dismissed Porat’s cross-complaint that he stuck Shenker in self-defense and that she was trying to defame him.
