Ballet Pacifica Season to Include 3 Premieres

Ballet Pacifica will present three premieres as part of the company’s 30th season, which opens in October at the Irvine Barclay Theatre.

The new works include an as yet untitled ballet by Rick McCullough and “Different Trains” by artistic director Molly Lynch (both on Oct. 23 and 24), and Lynch’s “Romeo and Juliet: A Dance Suite” (June 4 and 5).

Friday programs will be at 8 p.m. Saturday programs will be at 2:30 and 8 p.m.

The schedule:

* Oct. 23 and 24: James Jones’ “Rhapsody in Blue” (music by Gershwin); McCullough’s new ballet (Shostakovich); Lynch’s “Different Trains” (Steve Reich).

* March 5 and 6, 1993: Fokine’s “Les Sylphides” (Chopin); Lynch’s “Eight Lines” (Reich); Carl Corry’s “The Beauty of One Divides” (traditional guitar music).

* June 4 and 5: Deborah Appleton’s “Fantacia” (Tchaikovsky); Lynch’s new ballet (Prokofiev).

Series tickets: $40; $30 for students and seniors. Tickets for single concerts: $15, on sale beginning Oct. 2.

The company will also dance the “Nutcracker” ballet this year at the Laguna Playhouse, 606 Laguna Canyon Road, Laguna Beach. Dates are Dec. 17 through 23 at 7:30 p.m., and Dec. 18 through 23 at 3:30 p.m. Tickets: $15 for adults; $12 for children and seniors.
