It Is Easy Being Green on Election Day

Share

I feel compelled to say that it’s time for a change--a big one! I’m an elected member of the Green Party of California’s County Council (Central Committee) in Orange County. Yes, there is a Green Party!

In response to the letter of Mr. Fred Schwartz of Irvine (“By Any Measure, There’s Room for More Women in Politics,” July 5) I would like to say, in full agreement, that the Republican Party is seeing some challenging times, what with criticism of the party’s sexist practices (“GOP Males Hinder Political Careers of Women Candidates,” Letters, June 21) and “the good old boys’ club,” as Mr. Schwartz put it.

And as for the Democratic Party--what Democratic Party--you do mean Republicratic Party, don’t you?

The Green Party of California just achieved ballot status at the first of this year and has increased the number of registrants by 300% since last September. The numbers should indicate something.

As for women’s rights (and others’ rights), check us out. Our four pillars, originally created in what was then West Germany, over 15 years ago, are:

* Social justice.

* Ecological wisdom.

* Nonviolence.

* Grass-roots democracy.

A sustainable world must include all these points.

It won’t take long for people to figure out that, right now, we’re not only the best choice, but the only choice. And we are pro-choice.
