GM Offer to Suppliers Reported: General Motors Corp. has offered its European suppliers leased space at the auto maker’s vacant U.S. plants and free use of 15,100 furloughed workers, according to a published report. In a June 24 speech obtained by the Detroit Free Press, GM’s director of purchasing, Ignacio Lopez de Arriortua, made the proposal to 300 European parts suppliers in Frankfurt, Germany. A GM spokesman declined to confirm the offer, saying Lopez is testing several ideas to help the world’s largest auto maker. Another GM spokeswoman said the plan, if adopted, would not be limited to European suppliers.
