21 Events Scheduled for Chamber Music Series

Twenty-one events at 14 locales are scheduled on the 1992-93 Chamber Music in Historic Sites concert series, Oct. 10-May 3. These concerts will take place in locations including Union Station, the First A.M.E. Church, the Mayan Theatre, the Ritz-Carlton Huntington Hotel and the Cordelia Culbertson House in Pasadena.

A matinee performance at 10:30 a.m. by the touring Slovak Chamber Orchestra opens the series’ 20th season, Oct. 10 in the Orpheum Theatre, downtown. The 21-member ensemble from Prague will play music by Grieg, Zeljenka, Mozart and Suk, among others, led by its music director, Bohdan Warchal, beginning “A Day on Broadway!,” which includes visits to historic landmarks and cultural markets, hosted by the Docents of Los Angeles Conservancy.

Among projected highlights of the season will be a presentation of the Hanukkah story by the ensemble Western Wind, with narrator Theodore Bikel, at Wilshire Boulevard Temple, Dec. 6; the local debut of the Bay Area-based Theatre of Voices chamber Choir, in Mary Chapel in West Los Angeles (Feb. 28); an afternoon with jazz saxophonist Teddy Edwards, at Union Station (April 4); a first appearance, playing Beethoven and Debussy quartets, by the prize-winning Ying Quartet, at the Culbertson House (April 18); and “Vox Feminae: Music From Medieval Women’s Cloisters,” performed by Sequentia at Westwood United Methodist Church (May 3).
