SANTA CLARITA : Hearing Planned on Highway Route

Share

The California Department of Transportation has scheduled a public hearing today to hear comments and suggestions from the public about the proposed extension of California 126 in Santa Clarita.

The meeting, to be held at 6 p.m. at the Santa Clarita City Council Chambers, is the last in a series of public hearings by Caltrans on the proposed route. The meetings are designed to help the state agency choose a route for the proposed eight-lane road connecting the Golden State and Antelope Valley freeways.

“This will be the last opportunity for the locals to get their licks in,” said Wallace J. Rothbart, Caltrans project studies chief.

An advisory committee that includes local representatives has narrowed the route choices to two--one running south around Soledad Canyon Road and one running north of the road.

After the hearing, the advisory committee will recommend one of the routes to the California Transportation Commission, which will make the final decision on the matter.
