Program Addresses Youth Issues, Concerns
Four area students are among 60 high school students in a two-week residential program at Occidental College to define the issues, concerns and problems that face the teen-age population in Los Angeles and to articulate steps to address them.
The students are acquiring skills in negotiation and strategic planning, and they are meeting with members of police, health, labor, refugee, welfare and political organizations.
The program, sponsored by the college as a result of the Los Angeles riots, ends July 31. Its findings and recommendations will be presented to the Los Angeles City Council.
The local students are Dominque Lopez-Kinney, Hazel Osio and Andrew Rodriguez of Eagle Rock High School and Quan Tran of Franklin High School.
