Culver City : Hearing on Sony Studios

Share

The Culver City Planning Commission will hold a public hearing Wednesday on the environmental impact report for Sony Pictures Studios’ expansion proposal.

Speakers will have three minutes to comment on the two-volume report during the hearing, which will begin at 7 p.m. at Linwood E. Howe Elementary School Auditorium, 4100 Irving Place.

Sony Pictures’ 13-year development plan calls for turning the 44.77-acre studio site on Washington Boulevard and Overland Avenue into the world headquarters for Sony Pictures Entertainment, parent company of TriStar and Columbia Pictures.

The plan calls for the addition of nine buildings that would exceed the 56-foot height limit law, a helipad and a small shopping arcade.

The report, released in March, concludes that traffic would double, helicopter noise would be an intermittent irritant to residents, and two 11-story buildings would shadow a school and two residences if the plan is carried out.

The hearing will help planning commissioners come up with a recommendation to the City Council and Redevelopment Agency on the report. The latter agencies are scheduled to hold a public hearing on Aug. 31.
