BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : ANGELS : Parrish Says He Bears No Grudge

Share

In his first visit to Anaheim Stadium as a member of the Seattle Mariners, Lance Parrish played first base.

He could easily have played first base for the Angels or provided the catching depth the Angels lack because of John Orton’s sore shoulder. But despite calling the Angel organization “a revolving door” because of frequent personnel and policy changes, Parrish isn’t gloating over the team’s plight.

“I was hoping to have the opportunity to do well. I wasn’t leaving here hoping everybody would fall flat on their face,” said Parrish, who was waived June 23 and signed with Seattle four days later. “I’m getting an opportunity here, and I was hoping (Orton) would get an opportunity to play over there. It’s never been my intention to drag anybody through the mud. The California Angels made a decision. I’ve got to live with it, and they’ve got to live with it and that’s the way I’ll leave it.”

Parrish, 36, hit .277 with four home runs and eight RBIs in 19 games with Seattle before Monday. He has made six starts behind the plate and nine at first base.

Bryan Harvey received a shot of cortisone in his ailing right elbow Monday. He’s scheduled to throw again Friday, the start of a seven-day trip to Texas and Kansas City. . . . Orton (sore right shoulder) threw from home to second Monday and had no had aftereffects. “It’s not as strong as before,” he said. “I’ll throw to second again Wednesday and we’ll know more Thursday.”

Tim Salmon, who probably will be recalled from triple-A Edmonton soon after Manager Buck Rodgers’ return, was hitting .360 with 21 home runs and 88 RBIs through last Thursday. Infielder Damion Easley was at .301 and first baseman Don Barbara at .313. . . . Eduardo Perez, the Angels’ 1991 first-round draft pick, was hitting .257 for double-A Midland in 28 games after being promoted from Class A Palm Springs. . . . The Angels’ record in games decided in the seventh inning or later was 13-16 after Sunday’s game. The club’s public relations department incorrectly stated the record as 13-6.
