Claremont : Maintenance Jobs Cut

Share

Expressing deep regret to city workers and their families gathered in the council chambers, the City Council on Monday voted unanimously to cut nine city maintenance division positions. Six employees will be laid off and three vacant positions will not be filled.

The cuts, saving the city $167,800 for the 1992-1993 budget year, will go into effect Sept. 8.

Some work performed by the maintenance division will be contracted out to private firms. These jobs include painting, landscape maintenance and special projects. The city already contracts for janitorial services, turf maintenance and limited landscaping services. The maintenance division will continue to keep up high visibility areas, city trees and streets.
