Clouds from Mexico should play hide-and-seek with the sun today, but the game will end over the weekend when sunny skies and warmer temperatures move into the county, forecasters said.

The clear skies will arrive in time to brighten the 10th Annual “Summer Fun” fair held at the Bates Nut Farm from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The free fair will feature more than 125 vendors selling hand-thrown pottery, jewelry, folk art and watercolors.

“It’s a great day to come for a family outing or for a day in the country,” said Marilyn Miller, a shopkeeper at the Farmer’s Daughter, a gift shop on the farm.

The fair also will have food and ice cream for sale, live music during the day, a zoo and hayrides.

The Bates Nut Farm is northeast of Escondido at 15954 Woods Valley Road in Valley Center. For more information and directions, fair-goers can call 749-3333.

The fair weather this weekend will be preceded by clouds and a slight chance of light showers this morning, said Wilbur Shigehara, chief forecaster for the National Weather Service in San Diego.

The warm, humid air flow will gradually weaken, leaving sunny skies in the coastal and inland sections by Saturday, Shigehara said. The moist air will retreat into the mountains and deserts, where conditions will resemble “Waikiki or Miami,” Shigehara said.

In the deserts, temperatures will average 105 this weekend, with overnight lows of 80, Shigehara said.

The mountains will be about 90 degrees, with a possibility of thundershowers in the afternoons all weekend, Shigehara said. At night, the temperature will dip to 60 degrees, he said.

In the coastal area, including downtown, temperatures will peak in the low 80s all weekend, Shigehara said. The low will be near 66, he said.

Highs of 90 degrees are expected inland, Shigehara said. At night the temperature will fall to about 63, he said.

At the beach this weekend, the afternoon high will be about 73, Shigehara said. The water temperature will be 70, he said.
