WORLD IN BRIEF : GERMANY : Honecker Ordered to Remain in Jail

Former East German leader Erich Honecker was ordered to stay in jail while awaiting trial on manslaughter charges. At the closed hearing in the Moabit prison complex, Judge Hansgeorg Braeutigam said no trial date could be set until after Honecker’s lawyers appeal his arrest. Honecker first must undergo a thorough medical exam.
