LONG BEACH : Crime Drops 4.4% in First Half of ‘92, but Murder Is Up

Crime in Long Beach dropped by 4.4% during the first six months of the year compared to the same period last year, according to statistics released by the Long Beach Police Department on Friday.

However, according to the figures, the number of murders jumped 36%, from 47 cases in the first half of 1991 to 64 from January to July of this year. Arson cases more than doubled during the reporting period, which included the riots, from 47 to 99 incidents.
