GARDEN GROVE : City’s Anti-Nudes Decision Applauded

Share

An alliance of business leaders, residents and city officials has scheduled a press conference today at City Hall to support the City Council and Planning Commission’s decision to deny a business permit for a nude juice bar to operate on Garden Grove Boulevard.

The conference will focus on the negative economic impact that sex-oriented businesses have on the city, according to Heather Alexander, an alliance member.

The alliance alleges that such businesses lower property values, slow business growth, cause high crime rates and put children and women at risk in areas where adult businesses operate.

The news conference, which will include Rob Hurtt, president of Container Supply Co., Garden Grove businessman Kurt Pringle and City Councilman Mark Leyes, is scheduled for 2 p.m. on the steps of City Hall, 11391 Acacia Parkway.

A hearing is scheduled Tuesday in Orange County Superior Court on an appeal by Randall Welty, who is seeking to overturn the permit denial.

Welty, who owns an adult book store at the location, could not be reached for comment.
