Kiraly, Steffes Win 12th Tournament

San Clemente’s Karch Kiraly and Kent Steffes of Pacific Palisades won their 12th consecutive Assn. of Volleyball Professionals’ beach tournament Sunday, defeating San Clemente’s Larry Mear and Huntington Beach’s Eric Wurts, 15-5, in the finals of the Milwaukee Open.

Kiraly and Steffes, who set the single-season consecutive winning streak of 11 last week, can tie the all-time record next week at the Cleveland Open. Jim Menges and Greg Lee set the all-time record in the 1975-76 seasons.

Kiraly and Steffes, who have won 13 of 14 tournaments they have entered, split $15,000 in prize money. Sinjin Smith and Randy Stoklos, both of Pacific Palisades, finished third.
