Court Postpones Juice Bar Hearing

A court hearing that will decide the fate of a proposal for a juice bar featuring exotic dancing has been postponed until Aug. 26.

The hearing had been scheduled for Tuesday in Superior Court but was delayed.

City officials have twice voted down an application by Waldon R. Welty to raze his adult bookstore in the 8100 block of Garden Grove Boulevard and construct a two-story cabaret that would feature nude dancers.

City officials contend that zoning in the area no longer permits adult businesses. They also say the project fails to meet parking requirements. However, a Superior Court judge has ordered officials to reconsider their decision.

Roger Jon Diamond, an attorney for Welty, argues that the city has set up “illegal roadblocks.”

More than a hundred residents turned out to protest the proposed juice bar on Sunday. And on Monday, more than three dozen residents turned out at City Hall to support council members in their battle against the proposal.
