Of the estimated 125,000 people in this county with diabetes, more than 1,100 are under the age of 20 and suffer from Type 1, or insulin-dependent, diabetes.
The Orange County office of the American Diabetes Assn. offers a variety of social and educational programs for these kids and their families. In addition to Camp Chinnock, ADA’s Youth Services host twice yearly holiday parties, a Lake Arrowhead family retreat and a family camp-out on San Diego’s Mission Bay, as well as regular Youth Club outings for youngsters ages 12 and up. Activities are offered at little or no charge.
