The On-Road Habits of Some Bicyclists

Share

Regarding: article by Martin Miller “Spinning Wheels on Bicycle Commuters” (South Bay, July 31).

We live in Rancho Palos Verdes. There are many bikers in this area. We are really tired of arrogant, inconsiderate bikers. They act as if the whole road belongs to them. They will ride two or three abreast (at times on a two-way road or street). Many times we have been forced into an opposite lane because they would not move over or ride single file. We have seen some dangerous near-accident situations as a result of the above.

Of course, this does not apply to all bikers. Some are polite, considerate and share the road space fairly. There are far too many in the other category. When they are in a group, they are even worse.

We have honked at them. We were yelled at, and given an obscene hand gesture.

I don’t know what the solution is to this problem--even if there were stricter laws, there’s never anyone around to enforce them anyway. I would like very much to see if other readers share our viewpoint.

Drivers have rights too!
