Cooler Weather Expected as Humidity Goes East

The weather system that forced humidity into San Diego and thunderstorms into Campo this week will finally leave its mountain and desert hideaway this weekend, forecasters said.

“Winds blowing from the west will chase that system away into Arizona where it belongs,” said Wilbur Shigehara, chief forecaster for the National Weather Service in San Diego.

The shift in high-level wind directions should put an end to the thunderstorms that have occurred in the eastern part of San Diego County the past few days, Shigehara said.

The rest of the county can expect plenty of sunshine with drier and cooler weather, Shigehara said.

The slight drop in temperatures--only a degree or two below normal--will provide a brief respite before it gets hotter, he said.

“We are headed toward the warmest time of the year. Temperatures will start to rise after the weekend,” Shigehara said.

At the beaches, the high this weekend will be between 70 and 76 degrees, he said. The 72-degree water temperature is a few degrees above normal and the warmest the water has been since 1983.

In the coastal areas, including downtown, temperatures will reach 80 degrees this weekend, Shigehara said. At night, the mercury will fall to about 69.

Highs between 84 and 92 are expected inland this weekend, Shigehara said. The nighttime low will be near 64.

The mountains will be about 82 degrees during the day, dropping to 61 at night, Shigehara said.

Desert temperatures will continue to climb over the 100-degree mark during the day, with night temperatures of about 80.
