2 Church Workers Robbed at Gunpoint

A pair of robbers held two church employees at gunpoint Thursday afternoon, stealing their wallets and jewelry before fleeing, police said.

An unidentified man and woman entered the Green Hills Baptist Church, at 2200 W. Imperial Highway, and approached two employees in an office, said Lt. Jerry Cline.

As the robbers tied up the employees, the Rev. Ed Peery walked into the office, police said. One of the robbers pointed a gun at Peery, who immediately fled the room, slamming the door behind him, police said.

Peery then called police, who surrounded the church, but the robbers had already left, Cline said.

“This is really kind of a strange deal. I don’t know what they expect to get out of a church,” Cline said.

Neither employee was injured in the 1:45 p.m. robbery, he said.

No one was in custody late Thursday in connection with the crime.
