L.A. Jewish Community

I have a number of issues with Joel Kotkin’s article.

Mr. Kotkin, how many Jewish people did you poll prior to claiming that Jews are long accustomed to their influential niches? What influential niches do you think Jews have?

You have chosen Rabbi Max Vorspan from whom to quote. Rabbi Vorspan claims that Jews are obsessively self-involved. I say “bravo” to the Jewish community. Does the American Negro College Fund help the Jewish college-bound needy? No, it doesn’t--nor should it. Nor should we Jews be made to feel guilty about not supporting charities of other ethnic groups before first supporting our own.

How can Rabbi Vorspan label Jews as “Anglos” when there is a substantial number of non-white Jews in our society? How, also, does Rabbi Vorspan dare to compare Holocaust memorials to obsessive self-involvement?
