IRVINE : Fire Forces Workers to Evacuate Building

Share

More than 100 employees were evacuated from an office building early Friday morning when an electrical fire hit a sealed room containing hazardous materials, officials said.

No one was hurt in the fire at 1700 Barranca Parkway. An investigation determined that there was no environmental damage or any threat to workers’ health, said Orange County Fire Department spokeswoman Maria Sabol.

As employees were starting their day just before 7 a.m. at Printronix, a company that makes parts for computer printers, a security guard noticed smoke coming from a room containing a five-gallon tank filled with chromic acid, Sabol said. A team of 20 firefighters easily extinguished the flames and determined that no acid had leaked into the room, she added.
