Thomas B. Nolan; Directed Geologic Survey
Thomas B. Nolan, 91, who directed the U.S. Geologic Survey from 1956 to 1965. Among the projects during his tenure were underground nuclear testing and photographic mapping of the moon. Nolan began working at the agency in 1924, studying California’s Mother Lode gold country. On Sunday in Washington of a pulmonary embolism.
