The Mystery Writers of America this year named Elmore Leonard a Grand Master--their highest honor, given for an entire body of work. Among the other Edgar winners (as the prizes are familiarly known):
Best Mystery Novel: “A Dance at the Slaughterhouse” by Lawrence Block (William Morrow)
Best First Mystery Novel: “Slow Motion Riot” by Peter Blauner (William Morrow)
Best Original Paperback Mystery: “Dark Maze” by Thomas Adcock (Pocket Books)
Best Fact Crime: “Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets” by David Simon (HarperCollins)
Best Young Adult Mystery: “The Weirdo” by Theodore Taylor (Harcourt Brace Jovanovich)
Best Juvenile Mystery: “Wanted . . . Mud Blossom” by Betsy Byars (Delacorte)
Best Mystery Short Story: “Nine Sons” by Wendy Hornsby (Sisters in Crime 4/Berkley)
