William Weatherby, 62, biographer who chronicled the lives of Jackie Gleason, Marilyn Monroe, Salman Rushdie and James Baldwin. Originally a journalist in Great Britain, Weatherby wrote for the Manchester Guardian Weekly, Newsweek, People, the New York Times and the Washington Post before turning to books. His most recent book was “Jackie Gleason: An Intimate Portrait of the Great One.” On Wednesday in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., of a stroke.
