In an effort to give students a little more time before they have to hit the books, Orange Coast College is offering nearly a hundred “late starting” classes this fall.

The courses, including everything from accounting to psychology, will get underway Sept. 8, more than three weeks after the official start of the school year, which is Monday.

It is the ninth year the 15-week classes have been offered, and they are extremely popular, said Susan Brown, administrative dean of admissions and records. Sometimes vacation plans don’t jibe with school schedules or other family commitments, she said. “They are of particular value to mothers whose small children do not begin elementary school classes until Sept. 8,” Brown said.

Registration for late starting classes will be conducted Aug. 31 to Sept. 4 in the admissions office. Registration appointments are not needed, and persons are invited to drop in during regular officer hours to enroll.

The office is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Registration will continue during the first two weeks of late starting classes.
