SOUTH LOS ANGELES : 1 Shot Killed Tow-Truck Driver, Autopsy Shows
A South Los Angeles tow-truck driver who was killed last month during a confrontation with city police died of a single gunshot wound to his chest, according to an autopsy report released Wednesday.
The bullet entered the upper left arm of 36-year-old John L. Daniels Jr. and crossed his torso, causing fatal damage to several organs along the way, the report says.
Police and witnesses have said he was shot through the open door of his tow truck as he tried to drive away from Los Angeles Police Officers Patrick Bradshaw, 28, and Douglas Iversen, 42, who fired the fatal shot.
Daniels, who had been arrested a number of times and used the alias John L. McClain Jr., died July 1 after the police spotted him at a service station at the intersection of Florence Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard and recognized his tow truck from previous contacts.
The incident remains under investigation by the Police Department and by the district attorney’s office.
