Unamplified Festival

Not only is Henson’s 12th Annual Acoustic Music Festival a best bet, it’s a cheap bet as well; it’s free. Your ears won’t be blasted off your head into a different time zone by loud, obnoxious rock ‘n’ roll and you can leave those earplugs at home too.

Nothing like a day in the park listening to mellow music--mom would even enjoy this one. The 11 acts will perform from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday in Dizdar Park in Camarillo. Rootsy swamp rockers Big Bad Voodoo Daddy will chill out for an acoustic set as will those country-flavored pop rockers with the funny name, Garage-a-saurus Wrecks.

A possible highlight for this year will be a vocal pairing of two of the best female singers in the 805-area code, Mary Kay Fishell of the Convertibles and Marjorie Extract of J. D.’s Last Ride. Together, these two should register on the Richter scale.

Also on the bill are Blue Moon, County Line, Steve Elmer, Michael Grande, the Iron Mountain Boys, Luke & the Drifters, No Big Whoop and John Premo & Burning Wagon.

Take the Ventura Freeway to either the Lewis Road or Carmen Drive exits in Camarillo. Dizdar Park is on Glenn Drive, between Ventura Boulevard and Chapel Drive. For more information, call Henson’s Music at 482-6115.
