WEEKEND TV : Bush, GOP Convention in Spotlight

Next week’s Republican National Convention will be a popular topic of conversation on this weekend’s public affairs shows, with President Bush appearing on “This Week With David Brinkley,” Sunday at 11:30 a.m. (7)(3), 10:30 a.m. (10)(42).

MTV hopes its “Choose or Lose: Vote Loud!” two-hour special will encourage young adults to vote in this year’s presidential election.

MTV VJ John Norris anchors the show (today, 1-3 p.m.) from New York, where he will be joined by celebrity co-hosts Marky Mark, Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine, MC Lyte and others.

Also featured will be celebrity testimonials, live and pre-taped coverage, including a interview with the Beastie Boys while on tour in Irvine, and reports from the Lollapalooza festival.

During the program, viewers will be able to call in for voter information in their state.

Showtime presents “The 10th Annual Montreal Comedy Festival,” tonight at 10. The 11-day event features comedians from Belgium, France, England, Canada and the United States.

Hosted by Lily Tomlin, the show will have appearances by Jerry Lewis, Alan King, Steven Wright, Sinbad, Penn & Teller and Rita Rudner.
