Adult-Bookstore Owners Sue Santa Ana for Denying Permit

The city was sued Friday by owners of an adult bookstore who alleged that city council members wrongfully denied them a “peep show” permit.

Owners of the Adult Book Store on the 200 block of North Harbor Boulevard contend that the officials denied them a permit to show adult movies for “bogus reasons, ranging from lighting deficiencies, sign deficiencies . . . to alleged acts of lewd conduct by the patrons.”

An attorney for J.J.M. Inc., a Nevada corporation that operates the bookstore, contended in the lawsuit that the owners have complied with the city’s requirements for peep show businesses.

Neither the attorney nor city officials could be reached for comment late Friday.

According to the lawsuit, city officials went to court last April seeking a temporary injunction to shut the business down because of lewd acts reportedly committed by the customers, but their request was denied.

The lawsuit, filed in Orange County Superior Court, seeks to have a judge order the City Council to immediately issue the permit to show the movies.
