PALMDALE : City Balks at Plans for Street Barricade
The Palmdale City Council balked at plans to erect a street barricade when area residents questioned whether it would help deter drug sales, public drinking and drag racing in their neighborhood.
The council agreed Thursday night to re-evaluate a proposal calling for the closing of a portion of Avenue R-8, west of 12th Street East, until next month. In the meantime, city staff members will meet with residents to determine if something other than a barricade can solve the problems in the area.
The council, however, did agree to temporarily block a street in another Palmdale neighborhood to control chronic speeding. In a 5-0 vote, the council agreed to close 36th Street East, south of Avenue R-12, for three to six months as a test.
