Monorail Is People’s Choice

Share

In June of 1990, San Fernando Valley voters made it clear that monorail on the Ventura Freeway was their number-one choice for an east-west rapid transit system in the Valley.

At the Aug. 26 meeting of the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission, public comment will be heard and they will be presented with the final Environmental Impact Report supporting the feasibility of this technology.

With more than 100,000 Valley voters choosing monorail on the Ventura Freeway, any other choice by the commission would be political and not the “people’s choice.”

It’s unfortunate that critics of monorail have been actively disseminating misleading and inaccurate information as a scare tactic to diffuse public support for monorail on the freeway.

Those of us who have studied the pros and cons of subway vs. monorail on the freeway, have concluded that a system that will cost less; can be built in less time; is less disruptive to residential neighborhoods and would attract a larger ridership because of its location on the busiest east-west corridor in the Valley (the Ventura Freeway), has got to be the Ventura Freeway monorail technology.
