The husband of a Bradbury psychiatrist was arrested Sunday and charged with murdering her, then dumping her body into a back-yard trash can.

The body of Agnes Larson Kulcsar, 44, was discovered about 10:30 p.m. Saturday after Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies were called to the Mt. Olive Lane home after reports of a family disturbance.

Corwin Larson, 45, was charged with murder and taken to the Los Angeles County Central Jail.

“Deputies were told of some sort of struggle inside the residence,” said sheriff’s spokesman Larry Mead. “Relatives said they last saw (Corwin Larson) near trash cans outside the residence. Deputies . . . checked the house and yard and found the body of (Agnes Larson) inside one of the trash cans.”

Elsewhere, a Marine from Camp Pendleton was struck and killed before dawn Sunday while standing in a freeway traffic lane in San Clemente. California Highway Patrol Officer Jaime Sanchez said the Marine, whose identity was not made public, was in the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 when he was hit.

In another incident, an off-duty Long Beach police sergeant interrupted an attempted hotel robbery in North Long Beach on Saturday night and exchanged gunfire with one of the robbers, a sheriff’s deputy said. Three suspects were arrested.

The police sergeant, who was not identified, was unhurt.

The gun battle occurred about 11:30 p.m. at the Days Inn on Long Beach Boulevard, officers said. Four suspects tied up the clerk in the laundry room and were attempting to get the keys to the office when the sergeant entered.

The sergeant identified himself and ordered the four to come out, but one fired five shots at him from a semiautomatic handgun, officers said.

The sergeant shot back, firing his revolver six times and wounding one suspect in the leg, according to a Sheriff’s Department spokesman.

The four fled. One man and a 17-year-old boy later were arrested at a nursery adjacent to the Long Beach Freeway. A third suspect was arrested when he sought treatment for a gunshot wound at Long Beach Memorial Hospital Medical Center.
