Pinkerton Security & Investigation Services said Tuesday it has named Judge William H. Webster, the former chief of the FBI and the Central Intelligence Agency, to its board of directors.

“His distinguished career of public service and his renowned organizational capabilities make him a formidable choice for this new position,” said Thomas W. Wathen, chairman and chief executive officer of the Van Nuys-based firm.

Webster, 68, was a lawyer in private practice and a federal judge before heading the FBI from 1978 to 1987 and the CIA from 1987 to 1991. Earlier this year, he was appointed to direct an investigation of the Los Angeles Police Department’s response to the civil unrest that followed the verdicts in the Rodney G. King beating trial.

Webster is the seventh member of Pinkerton’s board and the sixth outside director of the firm. Pinkerton, which dates back to 1850, has more than 200 offices worldwide and primarily serves large corporations by providing security guards, investigation and security-related consulting services.
