Huntington Park : City Ban on Liquor Stores Extended for at Least a Year

Share

No new liquor stores will be allowed to open in the city for at least a year, the City Council decided this week.

In a 4-1 vote with Councilman Thomas Jackson dissenting, the council extended a ban imposed last month. New restaurants and retail businesses with more than 20,000 square feet of floor space will be exempt from the moratorium.

During the next year, the planning staff will draft new conditions for approving liquor stores and mini-marts that sell alcohol. For example, the city may restrict liquor sales close to schools and churches or limit the amount of floor space a store dedicates to alcohol.
