A 15-year-old girl was killed and her two friends were injured Tuesday night when their van ran into a parked 3 1/2-ton truck, authorities said.
Sheriff’s officers said the minivan was heading east on Vista Viejo toward Cabot Road at 9:20 p.m. when it ran into the back of a stake truck parked at the curb.
A passenger, Tara Moore of Laguna Hills, died at the scene, Lt. Dick Olson said. The driver, Nina Mirzaian, 16, of Laguna Hills, was in critical condition. A second passenger, Jill Turner, 15, also of Laguna Hills, remained in stable condition.
None had been wearing seat belts, Olson said.
The investigation is continuing, the lieutenant said, but “there did not appear to be excessive speed or alcohol involved.”
