Bay Bird Count--Another in a series of bird surveys at the Upper Newport Bay Ecological Reserve which are scheduled to coincide with the low tides will be held Saturday.

The event is sponsored by the California Department of Fish and Game and the Orange County Department of Harbors, Beaches and Parks.

People who are interested in the trip are asked to meet at 4:35 p.m. (20 minutes earlier than the scheduled low tide) at the California Department of Fish and Game trailer on Shellmaker Island, off Backbay Drive.

The survey takes about 2 1/2 hours.

Nature Nights Program--”Reptiles--The Most Misunderstood Animals” is the topic of an evening program Wednesday at the Oak Canyon Nature Center.

Jim and Sandy Ververha from the California Herpetology Assn. will discuss and display reptiles at 7:30 p.m.

A twilight walk will be held before the program, at 7 p.m.

The center is at 6700 E. Walnut Canyon Road, Anaheim Hills. The program is free, but donations will be accepted. For more information, call the center at (714) 998-8380.

Tide Pool Discovery--A tide pool walk will be held Aug. 30 at the Dana Point Youth and Group Facility at Dana Point Harbor.

The walk will be at 4 p.m. Participants will explore the variety of living creatures revealed at the tide pools during low tide. Participants will meet behind Building B, and should wear shoes that have a good tread and can get wet.

The discovery program is $3, free for children under 5.
