Southern California Job Market : Hottest Careers for Working Moms

For mothers seeking competitive salaries, flexible schedules and a family friendly environment, the August issue of Working Mother magazine lists the hottest careers for the 1990s.

Many are in health care because of the expanding demand nationally for health services. Physical or occupational therapists, pharmacists, nurses, dietitians, speech-language pathologists and diagnostic medical sonographers are on the list. The jobs pay $25,000 to $80,000 annually.

Also on the magazine’s list are careers in finance, human resources, technology and marketing. Certified financial planners and executive recruiters can earn between $35,000 and $150,000 annually. Electrical engineers can earn from $35,000 to $81,000. For those who can’t take no for an answer, direct sales can also be highly lucrative
