Share

County transportation officials are seeking public input on the Katella Avenue “super-street” project at two open houses to be held this week.

The first gathering will be held Tuesday in the McAuliffe Middle School Multipurpose Room at 4112 Cerritos Ave., Los Alamitos.

The second is scheduled for Wednesday at the Garden Grove Community Meeting Center, 11300 Stanford Ave., Garden Grove.

Both open houses start at 7 p.m., officials said.

The meetings will give people a chance to question the project’s draft environmental impact report and the planned improvements along Katella, between the San Gabriel River Freeway in Los Alamitos and Tustin Avenue in Orange.

The project will involve widening and re-striping Katella Avenue, adding turn lanes and bus turnouts, removing on-street parking, synchronizing traffic signals between cities, reconstructing some intersections and consolidating driveways.

Katella Avenue is one of 21 major streets in the county designated “super-streets.”

Measure M, the half-cent sales tax for traffic improvements adopted by voters countywide in 1990, earmarked $120 million for super-streets.
