COUNTYWIDE : Child Care Service Offers Free Training
A free referral service that helps parents find quality licensed child care in Ventura County also is trying to better assist providers by offering free training and financial aid for meals.
The Fine Day Care Food Program, a nonprofit agency based in Thousand Oaks, matches preschool-age children with child-care providers in their area, said program director Geri Fineroff.
“We do a tremendous amount with the community helping parents find day care for their children,” Fineroff said.
In addition to providing free training and supplies to providers, the program offers affordable group medical and liability insurance, a free fingerprint service and a bookkeeping system to help providers with taxes, she said.
Through the program, a provider licensed to care for six children may receive $250 to $300 a month from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to help pay for meals, Fineroff said.
