SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO : Latino to Receive Top Educator Award
Longtime Capistrano Unified School District administrator Richard Thome has been selected as a recipient of the Ninth Annual Outstanding Hispanic Educator Award by the Irvine Council of the League of United Latin American Citizens, or LULAC.
Thome, who serves as director of elementary schools at the district, is being honored for his contributions to future Latino leaders in the county.
“We are impressed with his many personal accomplishments, his involvement and special contributions to education for Orange County Hispanic youths,” said Anita M. Del Rio, chairman for the league.
Thome will be among four educators honored at a special recognition awards program on Sept. 19 at the El Toro Marine Corp Air Station Officers Club. LULAC, whose main goal is promoting and providing educational opportunities for Latino youths, is the largest and oldest organization of its type.
