Venice : Counseling on Cityhood

Share

Drawing on her own experience fighting for cityhood, Malibu City Councilwoman Carolyn Van Horn has urged a group of Venice activists not to get sidetracked in their quest to make the beachfront community into a city.

Van Horn, one of the organizers of Malibu’s long quest for independence from Los Angeles County, told the Venice Cityhood Organizing Committee last week: “Keep your eye on the goal, which is getting the vote for cityhood.”

She advised the Venice group to learn as much as possible about the process of incorporation, including the role of the Local Agency Formation Commission in determining the financial feasibility of forming a city.

In an interview, Van Horn said she was very impressed with the Venice group. “They’ve done their homework. They seem quite determined,” she said.
